I am a junior chemical engineer who has worked for a year in instrumention but did not enjoy it too much was very plain. But got an opportunity now to work as a contruction/estimating engineer in the oil and gas side of things.
Would a construction/estimating position help me get more involved with process engineering down the road and perhaps operations managment 20 years down. Is it good to take this path.
I do not seem to get a break as a pure process engineer at this point (my grades are not the greatest) and usually the bigger companies like shell etc look at grades before they give anyone any sort of change.
regards

I am graduating this year and want to work in economic development. The problem is that the UN asks me for previous experience, and people like Engineers Without Borders don't hire foreigners. I mean, EWB Canada only hires Canadians. Do you know of any group that I might join, as an Uruguayan Industrial Engineer without experience in volunteering? Thanks in advance. By the way, I do have experience in investment planning and evaluation, in sales and in material handling.

I am selling an older home 60+ year and the buyer had their inspector out and they want a structural engineer to do an inspection – should I be worried that the sale could fall through and I could be facing thousands to repair a house worth under 0,000?

So I've been working a regular 9-5 since I've finished my degree, but I've been asked on several occasions if I would do some freelance work.
I'd be happy to do the work, but I'm not sure what to charge. It would be for web-related software engineering work (PHP, CSS, XHTML, etc.). What would be a reasonable hourly rate to charge?
This is for a relatively small client (a web development firm).
I have extensive experience with web development, but I am also just out of college.

I am starting Civil engineering school in the fall but I am a little worried that I am not good enough in math. I have always made A's and B's in algebra, geometry, and finite math, but I have been taking an online Trig class and I am having a hard time teaching myself. I think I could do better if I was in an actual class because I learn better when I am showed but that was not an option. I want to work with the department of transportation and development so I am not sure if I will be doing more design or more supervision and inspection. Therefore, I have no idea how much of this stuff that I am being taught will ever be applied. But I am getting a little discouraged that I am not advanced enough in math to be a successful engineer. I also seem to have trouble retaining information if I do not use it and apply it and this is a bit discouraging also. Should I consider another field or is all of this in my head?

I never could decide if I wanted to be a doctor or engineer. After some college, I made a decision to go into electrical engineering. Now I miss studying medical subjects. I don't know if I've made a big mistake. Sometims I feel like I'm wasting years. If I minored in physiology, would this be a total waste in engineering? I mean realistically with the economy and everything.
