Consulting Engineers Archives

I will relocate to Singapore with my husband and want to have some idea of the Civil/Environmental Engineer job market in Singapore.

I have advance degree and a few year working experience in US.

Where would be my best bet? Government, consulting, industrial, etc?? What would be the salary? Any companies to recommend?

And the most important: where I get started with the job-hunting?

Thanks

I have a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and have passed the FE/EIT exam but, unfortunately, am in a region void of any industry or opportunity to use my degree to gain valuable work experience. With no real job prospects in sight, I was contemplating starting my own business to use the skills and experiences I have in a contract/consulting type service. Is a professional engineering license required to provide mechanical design and analysis services (part design, tool and fixture design, engineering and patent drawings, FEA, etc.)?

I have a three wheel gravity car, one wheel in the back and two in the front. When i consulted a mechanical engineer, I was told to add weight to the rear of the car to relieve weight and friction from the front wheels. My friends tell me to add weight to the front of the car to make it go faster. what do you all propose I do?

gpa requirement for a top consulting firm?

I am a junior double majoring in industrial engineering and economics at an elite U.S. university (top 15). My current GPA is 3.32 and I am afraid that it is not enough to get interviews from top consulting and banking firms. Can anyone tell me more about this topic?

Finance and consulting career for industrial and operations engineering at university of michigan?
Basically, I am an IOE (industrial and operations) in the college of engineering. I am thinking about pursuing finance or consulting (management/strategic consulting that is) for my career. I know those are really competitive fields.
Right now, I am sitting at a 3.6 GPA right now (junior standing, I kinda slacked off freshman year) and I was talking to a couple LSA kids at a career fair and they are all like 3.8 3.9s.. Engineering classes are supposed to be harder and the average gpas and stuff in engineering are much lower than LSA (I am pretty sure most of you know that) ..so my question is, will my lower gpa due to major negatively affect me?
Also, how does IOE from michigan place in consulting and finance?

I also have questions about grad school.. if consulting and finance are my career goals, what should I do?
There’s a 5 year Master of IOE program (SGUS) which saves us a lot of trouble applying if our GPA is above 3.5 (it’s almost an automatic in) ..but should I apply for master of financial engineering program instead? Or should i not even worry about grad school for now and just apply for an MBA program down the road? Is it possible to get into a top MBA program straight out of undergrad?

Thanks in advance

PLEASE DO NOT JUST POST A RANDOM LINK thank you

Disaster engineering (civil engineer)?

I’m a design engineer (civil engineer) for a consulting firm. Overall I love my job, but there are days when I’m staring at my 2 screens and I feel like I’m going to explode. I’ve always had a dream of getting some boots on and hop a plane to an area which underwent a large scale natural disaster and jump in there and help the best I can. I’m not looking for a career change, as I couldn’t do it for long term (aka joining the sea bee’s) but I would just like to say that once I did it. Have any of you done this? Where would you find information on doing this.I have a passport, and I assume I’ll need the necessary shots, whatever it takes so when something happens I’ll be ready.Any suggestions?

I checked online and my area is freeview enabled however the site reccommends that I get a new aerial in order to recieve the channells. It just says to consult a television engineer in my local area. Can anyone give me an idea of the aerial I need?
I have a standard VHF ariel in my loft. This picks up analouge channels with excellent quality, however I get no digital channells whatsoever

knocking out a wall in a 150 yr old house?

All my research has told me that if the wall runs the same direction as the joists/rafters, its not a load bearing wall. Then at the end, they say that this applies to newer construction only. Who do I get in to consult? A structural engineer, architect, contractor.

In your recent letter you ordered several items for immediate delivery. Our production manager and our consulting engineer have informed me of some delays in retooling machines for your order. We will expedite this adjustment and put your order into work quickly. The shipping department will, of course, inform you of the shipping date, and Ms. Cifelli will visit you personally if necessary. Please understand our problems in retooling and accept our assurance of careful attention. Both Ms. Cifelli and I look forward to serving you.
